Since our 3rd Quarter theme is Timely and Trendy Tips, I decided to reprise an old favorite of mine. So, if you’ve been in a group with me before, you know this is one of my favorite tips: Say "NO" more!
As we look at our theme—saving calories—there is no rocket science. There is no way to trick out bodies. We have to fuel our bodies with healthy foods then burn the fuel regularly or we will be sitting on...a tankful of extra fuel. Yep.
Saving calories can be achieved by saying “NO” more.
Why say “NO” to your self? Why do you say “NO” to anyone? Because there is for a good reason, right? So that is this week’s challenge.
From the extreme “NO” of “I will not eat xxx for 30 days until I see results and then I will only eat xxx once a week as a treat,” to “I will save calories like money in the bank. I will say “NO” to anything after 2000 calories per day.”
I’m sure we all have different philosophies on healthy eating and exercise, but there is a universal understanding regarding this rule: “Calories in, Calories out.” Too many calories in and two few out will result in too many unwanted pounds.
If you needed to hear this, no one but you will ever know☺…give it a try this week: Say “NO” more.
Be encouraged,
Becky

Good Morning Ladies,
ReplyDeleteI have struggled with my weight since I turned 20 and I am now 57. I am an emotional eater, I eat whether I am glad, sad or mad.
This week I learned that relapse is a part of recovery. I celebrate today 90 days of abstinence. I have hit this milestone many times. The longest time of abstinence was one and half years of no sugar, no wheat, no flour and one night I ate a piece of hard candy and I have been struggling since then. My weight has yo-yo up and down but this time I am serious about releasing this weight and becoming resonably thin.
I participate in Overeaters Anonymous. True abstinence is what you determine it to be. Trigger foods need to be identified and may be on this list but only you can determine what they are. For me, I can not eat sugar, and pizza. Sometimes abstinence is just saying the kitchen is closed after 7 pm or abstinence is eating three moderate meals and a snack and nothing else inbetween or after.
There was a challegne in one of your post to identify a need and so I did. On healthsteward.com I post my weight loss journey. Each week as I post I try to share about Christ. This site is a Christian site but there are hurting people there who have a weight problem that they struggle with. So, I started a 12 step study based on God's word and The Life Recovery Bible. Becky, I now know how you feel when you see God working through the lives of the words that God gives you to encourage us. I often speak in this forum of how the principles I have learned from you have changed my life. I love your 60 day spiral journal.
At my church we have a Freedom In Christ Ministy and a Set free ministry. Each of these programs help men and women struggling with addiction whether it be food, sex, drugs, approval, once we recognize who we are in Christ we can trust God to help us not manage our weight but give us a new freedom from the pull of the refrigerator.
I loved what you said Becky just say "No more" why should I manage a problem that with God's help He will eliminate it when we yield to Him. I am a reflection of His Son and I have the indwelling Holy Spirit. When I run to Him with my emotional pain, my anger, my sadness, my gladness instead of food, that is the best exercise I can do. "Taste and see that the Lord is Good" Food is for nutrition and it is not a solution. Only God can met our deepest hurts.
Blessings.....Diana
I was going to post the 12 steps of recovery from Rick Warren his program is Celebrate Recovery but my post was to long. I am now on Step Four. So here are the 12 steps. The Twelve Steps And Their Biblical Comparisons
ReplyDelete1. We admitted we were powerless over our addictions and compulsive behaviors. That our lives had become unmanageable. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. (Romans 7:18 )
2. Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. (Philippians 2:13 )
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God. Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. (Romans 12:1 )
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the LORD. (Lamentations 3:40 )
5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being, the exact nature of our wrongs. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. (James 5:16 )
6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. (James 4:10 )
7. Humbly asked Him to remove all our shortcomings. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9 )
8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all. Do to others as you would have them do to you. (Luke 6:31 )
9. Made direct amends to such people whenever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you; leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift. (Matthew 5:23-24 )
10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it. So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! (1 Corinthians 10:12 )
11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and power to carry that out. Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly. (Colossians 3:16 )
12. Having had a spiritual experience as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and practice these principles in all our affairs. Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. (Galatians 6:1 )
Blessings....Diana
Hello everyone ! I hope to see more postings. I had to miss the live call and did not listen till the next day so I only started writing down for Sat and today. Wow, I really needed that message. I am going to take a break from work now at 3:00 so I can listen live, I think I get A LOT more out of if I listen live. It is also fun to interact with Becky.
ReplyDeleteI had lost 15 pounds in the winter, then gained back 5 in the spring. Then I had stopped weighing myself this summer and needed that "Kick" to get on Sat morning. I prefer to live in denial, so was very disapointed to see 5 more pounds back. So,thanks Becky for the encouragement to look to the end of the year as a goal and get back on track. I usually get discouraged and give up if i don't lose 3 pounds a week. But, if I even only lost only 1 pound per week at the end of the year I would lose 18 pounds. Obviously I could lose more, but the point is that would be better than nothing :-) I know I can be an emotional eater but what I discovered is that I just love food and cooking and eating. So, it is not always an issue of turning to the Lord instead of food because of problems. I had a great, stress free summer so the weight gain was just too much eating not enough exercise.
I need to put the SAY no into practice and come up with creative ideas to not taste the food while fixing dinner and then eating a full dinner and a snack before bed!
Thanks the prayers for me . I really want to see some kind of loss for our Wed call.
Sandra (Purple Princess), remembering your surgery is Tuesday (tomorrow).
ReplyDeletePraying this time the surgeons can do what they need to do for you, and there are no complications whatsoever.
Blessings and heartfelt prayers.
Thank you Laura for your rememberance and for your prayers. Yes today is the day at 11:30 am Arizona time. They are going to do an awake intubation which just sounds like a barrel of fun.... but once the get everything in then they will knock me out and prayerfully I will not wake up until all is over. Thanks to everyone who has been remembering me in prayer. You are all very special.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Sandra
Wow, Diana, thank you for the 12 steps. As Becky said, AWESOME! Praise God for the fellowship of believers. Although I am not presently dieting, I am staying at my current weight because I exercise daily if possible. I know I have gained a few pounds just by the way I feel physically. Then, I really take it easy for a few days, eat light, and I feel much better. For that, I thank God. He gives me the ability to carry on and eat healthy as much as possible.
ReplyDeleteTomorrow I leave for a 3 day retreat to the mountains just to spend some time with Him, fast and pray. When I give my stomach a break and spend time with Him, it is always good. I have a friend who dedicates every Monday to God with prayer and fasting. Something to consider...
I thank Him every morning for my good health. And I STAY AWAY from artificial sweeteners/diet anything. Fresh, fresh, fresh food. Limit potatos and bread. Dark chocolate is a winner..in small amts.
Movement daily is the key for me to feel good and stay healthy. I must go outside daily and exercise or I feel horrible. I mix it up with different activities, but I must have fresh air for skin and good digestion. Get a dog or a friend and get outside and take deep breaths and soak in some light therapy from the sun (SON)! Also, praise Him with music! Turn on the music, get your instrument and play, praise, sing, dance for Him! He will take your mind off food.
Clinging to HIM always, everyday.
