Week Eleven: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail...

In almost every book I've written, I've quoted businessman W. Clement Stone who said, "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail." Why? It doesn't matter if we're talking about food, quiet time, exercise, errands, or work projects, if you don't PLAN AHEAD, you will most likely forget something, feel rushed, or perform at a lower level than if you had planned ahead.

This principle--planning ahead--takes time.

In previous online groups, I've taught the 20/20/20 principle: 20 pray, 20 play, 20 plan. For 60 minutes each day, I suggest that your life would be more balanced, more healthy, and more peaceful if you would spend a minimum of 20 minutes praying, 20 minutes playing (or exercising in some fun way), and 20 minutes (YES EVERY DAY) planning out tomorrow, the week, the month and whatever else is going on in your life.

This week, give the 20/20/20 principle a try in your life. If you can't afford 60 minutes a day, then at least set aside 20 minutes each morning or evening to plan your tasks and to-do's for the current or coming day.

Be encouraged,

Becky

  1. I can't believe it, I was at home, ready to do the live call when the power went out in our neighborhood for NO reason. So, no phone and no internet to look up the call in number to use on my cell phone :-( So , I missed the call again. Well, anyways, I listened later and thanks again for the reminder . I never think I have an hour all together so I like the idea of 20/20/20 . How is everyone this week? I am just back to work after being home all summer so I am very tired out till I get used to the early morning schedule. Please pray I can make the live call NEXT week :-)

  2. I'm yet to work on this week's 20/20/20 but glad Becky, that you covered it again.
It's easy to remember and a good reminder.
Tomorrow is my next meeting about serving in a certain area, so we'll see what happens. Jennygrace, hope you can be on the phone next Wednesday!

  4. Jennygrace: It was very much a blessing. I attended a local gathering of Precept leaders and hope to join in some things with them in the near future. We had no less than an hour and a half prayer session at the meeting for missions, the church, USA, World, etc. I havent been in a prayer meeting like that for years. I had a strong sense of being in the place God wanted me to be, so we shall see.
Thanks for asking and hope to 'see' you Wednesday.
PS All: I emailed Purple Princess on her surgery outcome and have not heard back from her yet?.

  5. 20/20/20 check in.
I'm great at the planning part, but I have to condense my planning down. I truly have too many little pieces of paper (lists) in too many places.
Prayer--almost getting 20 min. a day, but also always praying all day long.
Exercise, needs work. My poor Golden Retrievers need walking and my husband is unable to help walk them right now.
Maybe I need to borrow a teen-ager to help me? Or get some better leashes/collars?
    Looking forward to tomorrow's call.

  6. This 20/20/20 is a good thing, gets me pointed in the right direction. I too, pray all day long, but feel the need to spend the 20 minutes in written prayer. It gives me accountability and documentation of my actual prayers. Many times when things have gone haywire I can look back at my journal and see my commitment and answer to a specific prayer. Years ago I prayed very hard over what school my special needs boy should go to. I know God directed me to the school he went to and it was horrible but I knew that there must be a reason. 5 years later that reason came and I could look at the prayer journal and know that I praised God through out the ordeal. If I had just talked to God I don't think I would have felt confident that he was where God wanted him to be and possibly would have taken things into my own hands. Never a good thing.
20 minutes of planning keeps me accountable not too hard. I love lists, just not to good at the follow through, which brings me to the next 20. EXERCISE is my biggest downfall. As soon as the repair man leaves I am going for my 20 minute walk with my ipod. Tomorrow I made a date to walk with my neighbor. The 20 minute rule has definitely been a motivator. Thanks for all your comments. I want to be all what God wants me to be and this helps me stay in line with that goal.
